Delivery jobs like DoorDash are a great way to make extra money in your free time. Here are the 7 best driver apps like DoorDash to make $18+ per hour.

We all face times where we need to make ends meet. Food delivery gigs are an excellent way to meet those needs as they have minimal requirements and offer a flexible schedule. Delivery jobs like DoorDash put cash in your pocket and let you help people in a time crunch.

On-demand driver apps like DoorDash have grown in popularity in recent years, and only continue to grow. Many apps let you deliver meals, plus so many other items, and earn up to $20 per hour.

However, DoorDash isn’t the only choice for a delivery job. There are others that offer similar opportunity.

What Is DoorDash?

DoorDash is a popular on-demand food delivery platform. The DoorDash app is available in 4,000 cities and allows customers to order food and have it delivered to their door.

Once a customer enters their order, it becomes available for a DoorDash driver to pick up and deliver.

To become a DoorDash driver, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have a valid driver’s license and car insurance
  • Be able to pass a background check
  • Have a clean driving record
  • Own a newer smartphone with the latest update
  • Be able to attend orientation (based on your city and state, so make sure to check)

Once you sign up and complete all of your requirements, you can start driving for DoorDash. You can even make money with your bike delivering meals for DoorDash if you don’t have a car.

DoorDash pays weekly, and you receive at least $1 per order plus 100 percent of all the tips you earn. Driver pay varies, as you work on your schedule, receive tips, and get paid based on how fast you deliver.

You can earn up to $20 an hour driving for DoorDash, which makes it one of the best paying delivery app gigs.

Delivery Jobs Like DoorDash

Delivery gigs like DoorDash all work similarly, but some have unique offerings. Most services pay weekly, often via direct deposit.

Here are the seven best food delivery jobs like DoorDash to make money on the side.

1. Postmates

Postmates is one of the larger competitors to DoorDash. The service isn’t available in as many cities, but it’s nationwide and rapidly growing.

The Postmates app operates much like DoorDash; you can read our Postmates vs. DoorDash review to learn how they differ.

One key difference is in what you can deliver with Postmates.

In addition to meals, you can deliver:

  • Alcohol
  • Clothing
  • Groceries
  • Office supplies

It’s more like a courier service that also allows you to deliver meals.

Once you become a driver, you can pick up orders whenever you’re available. All you have to do is open the app and accept the orders you want to complete.

You can also receive tips and bonuses during busy times.

Postmates is a first-come, first-served delivery app. So, if you’re working during super busy times, you may lose out on orders if you aren’t quick enough.

The service claims you can make up to $25 per hour, but most cities report earnings of around $18 per hour.

2. Instacart Shopper

Instacart Shopper isn’t precisely like DoorDash, because drivers deliver groceries instead of meals.

However, if you don’t mind grocery shopping for others, this is a great side hustle to consider.

The service is available in over 5,000 cities, and they work with many grocery store chains.

Instacart Shopper gives you two different ways to earn money. The first is as a full-service shopper; this means that you receive the grocery order, shop for groceries, and then deliver them.

Or, you could be an in-store shopper, where you would pick and bag the groceries and get them ready for pickup. With this option, you have the opportunity to be an employee versus an independent contractor.

Employee status entitles you to benefits like sick pay and retirement savings but will limit the amount of money you can make.

With either option that you choose, you’re paid weekly and can pick your hours. You must set your schedule at least a week in advance.

You’re also required to have at least a two-hour shift (if full service) or four-hour shift (if in-store) when picking hours.

Instacart Shopper claims you can earn at least $20 per hour, inclusive of tips, but that varies based on your location.

7. Roadie

Do you love long drives and the open road? While it doesn’t always involve food, Roadie allows you to travel long distances to make money. “Roadies” can deliver virtually anything, such as:

  • Groceries
  • Large items
  • Prescriptions

Think of Roadie as delivering packages, like Amazon, and anything else that may come to mind.

Roadie Pay

Roadie claims drivers can earn an average of $15 per trip. This depends on various factors, including where you’re located and how busy Roadie is in your area. However, some reports indicate it’s possible to earn up to $20 per trip.

If you’re interested in delivering items outside your city, you can earn up to $650 for a trip, according to the Roadie website.

  • You must be at least 18 years old
  • Valid Social Security Number
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Maintain at least four stars as a Roadie driver (once you’re accepted)
