You want to punish your husband for Father’s Day? Then give him one of these epic Father’s Day gift fails.
Table of Contents
Nothing
Yep. The worst (and sadly, most common) Father’s Day gift fail is not giving anything at all. One disappointed dad recounted getting nothing (again) for Father’s Day:
“It was my FIRST Father’s Day. I told my wife leading up to that day that I wanted a nice breakfast. Woke up first that day, got the kid up and played with him and then the wife got up. At this point it was 8:45 a.m. and she said, ‘what do you want to do for Father’s Day?’ I told her I had only asked for breakfast and she said she would run to the grocery store. I just left the house and ate by myself at Bojangles.”
Cheap Toiletries
One wife meant well, but failed miserably when giving her husband a nice toiletry set for Father’s Day. He recounts, “got a really bad infection under my armpit…and eventually had to go to the hospital to get it removed, leaving a giant hole in the armpit.”
Something He Won’t Use
One wife remembers a time she wasted money on her husband for Father’s Day, “I got my husband this really awesome cooler stand for our deck. The highlight (and what made it cost five times as much) is that there is this bottle opener on it that drops the caps into this little trough thing and then end slides up….Overheard my husband laughing with my father-in-law that the beer he drinks has twist-off tops.”
Something Related to His Work
When a man works all day, even if he likes his job, he may not want to be reminded of it on Father’s Day. When shopping for a doctor for Father’s Day, one woman bought a stethoscope. “It was a dumb gift,” she said. “He already had stethoscopes. He didn’t need another one.”
A Funny Shirt That Isn’t Funny
‘Best Grandpa Ever’ may sound like a good idea, but you don’t want to make your husband feel old on Father’s Day. If your gag gift doesn’t go over well, you could end up ruining the day for him and you.
Homemade Cards
Many people opt for homemade cards from kids as a way to save money. While a homemade card can be sweet, especially from a child, you have to make sure you read the message first.
One dad recalls, “I got this thing from the school where my daughter scribbled on a cut out paper tie stapled to a fill-in-the-blank form they went over with her. One of the prompts was, ‘He’s not very good at…’ which my daughter filled with ‘going potty’ so thanks for that kiddo.”
A Gift That’s Really for Yourself
It’s tempting to buy something for your husband that you can both enjoy. Don’t do it. A true gift is one given first and foremost for the recipient. One Dad remembers receiving a game that only his son ended up playing alone.
The son recounted, “I could feel his disappointment and he said something along the lines of, ‘I thought we were going to play it together.'”
Coffee Mug for the Toilet
Called ‘toilet mugs’ these funny gifts may seem like a good idea, unless your husband actually uses it. Then, you’ll either ruin coffee for yourself or ruin the bathroom for him.
Something He Doesn’t Want
When you’re trying to live on a budget, sometimes practicality can overtake thoughtfulness on gift selection. A gift is no good, no matter how good of a deal you scored, if he hates it.
One man recalls getting a, “fugly shirt/tie combo…that was wrapped in plastic with lots of cardboard, tissue and a million of those little annoying pins. I set it aside on a shelf in my closet and forgot about it.”
An Accessory for an Activity He Doesn’t Enjoy
Camping! It sounds awesome, right? And like a total dad activity. But not all men enjoy camping. One man remembers a Father’s Day fail, “My wife was so excited and got me a cot for camping. I absolutely hate camping.”
Big Boy BBQ Apron
Really, how would you feel if your husband made you feel ugly on Mother’s Day? Remember, the day may be a greeting card holiday, but it’s an opportunity to show you care and that you’re grateful – not to have a laugh at his expense.
