The corporate world is grueling and forgives no one, even for the most minor of mistakes. Sometimes, you don’t even need to do anything wrong, but you still get reprimanded for it. Who said being a full-time adult was easy?
Here are eleven of the most stupid reasons why workers were given the pink slips, as mentioned in an online community. Get ready for some strong emotions because, boy, these will make you angry.

1. Hospital Emergency
You’d expect people to be a little sympathetic even if it is a workplace, but nope, this company was not having it. A woman had to undergo emergency surgery, so she sent out an email telling her boss she’d get work done as soon as she got better.
In response, they decided to fire her because, god forbid, someone gets ill. The ironic thing is that they offered her the position back since they just couldn’t find anyone good enough for the job.
2. Insubordination
Rude and arrogant managers are the worst thing to happen to humanity. One person recalls how he started learning to code by himself and would make little programs for his own department, just to improve the workflow. He wasn’t a programmer at the company but had a different designation.
One day, his manager marched up to him and demanded he make a program for another department. He agreed but only told her that he wasn’t that great at it, so it would be better to hire a trained professional. The next thing he knew, he was being sacked.
3. Catching Fraud
A young teen was working as a receptionist in a clinic in a small rural area. The doctor there was prescribing X-rays to everyone who didn’t need them and handing out pills like candy. So, the teen decided to call the patients and tell them not to come back.
But, even after this, the teen thought it wasn’t enough, so he went up to the mayor to tell him about the situation. The government checked the clinic, and the teen ended up getting fired by the doctor. But as it happens, the entire place got shut down, so technically, they didn’t lose much.
4. Piercings
Discrimination is the most common reason when it comes to people being let go. One person reports that they were employed at a company where they were supposed to fold clothes, clean shelves, etc. They had a no-piercing policy, so she would just remove it before work.
One day, she forgot to do that, and the manager called in to terminate her position there. As it turns out, the manager was just pulling strings for her friend, whose daughter wanted to work there. Jeez.
5. Cancer
Yes, you read that headline right. When two coworkers were having a heart-to-heart conversation, one mentioned that his wife had cancer and was not going to make it. Somehow, word reached the HR, who proceeded to fire him! They said that he wouldn’t be able to focus on his work because of his family situation and proceeded to add, “We like your work, so you are free to re-apply after she’s gone.” Talk about insensitivity.
6. Ex-girlfriend
Despite doing very well and getting the company many clients and deals, this employee got fired like his hard work meant nothing to the company. When he and his girlfriend broke up, and she quit her job, he was fired a day later. When he asked why, he was told that it was because they didn’t want a case filed against their employees, so they’re going to be letting him go just in case.
7. Accident
Can you get fired accidentally? This story will prove that you most definitely can. When an employee received half his salary, he was left very confused as to why that was. He called to ask the team, who responded by saying he was being let go because his driver’s license had expired.
The man was a software engineer, so it made absolutely no sense. It turns out they had to fire the person below his name on the list and accidentally fired him. Who’s paying these people?
8. Endangering Lives
When an emergency alarm went off while the worker was leaving after her shift, she bumped into her manager. The manager told her she couldn’t exit and had to head to the shelter with her to follow the drill. So, the worker did as she was told and went along with her. The next day, she found out she was being fired for endangering the life of the manager, who complained that he had to ask her to follow the drill, which put his life in jeopardy.
9. Wrong Shoe Size
This young teen had started a job as a shoe salesperson. Only two weeks into the job, a customer walked in and wanted a size seven despite clearly not being that size. The teen listened to her and brought out what she had requested. The customer tried it on and got irritated at the teen, who she said was bringing out the wrong sizes.
After a lot of back and forth, the teen finally replied, “I think you’re a size twelve and not a size seven.” The woman turned bright red with rage, and the teen was fired because, apparently, she was a regular.
10. Framed By a Co-worker
A person recalls her time as a cashier, which was short-lived due to her coworker. The management had a strict policy against people working there without a degree. Yet, there was this one girl who was hired regardless because she was dating the manager. It turned out that she was the jealous type, so one day, she got ahold of the keys to the cash drawer and took out twenty bucks. When it got reported, blame was put on the person, and that led them to get fired.
11. Arcade Games
Karma has a way of coming back when you least expect it. A casino manager onboard a cruise ship didn’t turn off the arcade games during a drill. Even though it wasn’t his job to do so, he was called to the office and fired rudely. A couple of weeks later, there was news about that same ship on the television because it had toppled over and sank. Dodged a bullet.
