Best Food Delivery Apps to Get Meals Delivered to Your Door

Is your only experience using meal delivery getting a pizza delivered to your home? There are numerous other choices now that makes virtually any type of food possible for delivery.

You can have fast food to a steak dinner delivered to your home when using on-demand food delivery apps. It’s often much less than you would expect, especially when you use promotions.

For example, you can use the below offers to save money on meals:

  • DoorDash – $7 off any order of $10+
  • Grubhub – $5 off any order of $10+ when you use the code “AFF5”
  • Postmates – $100 delivery credit, for your first seven days, when you use the code “GETFOOD”

Most other food delivery services near you offer similar promotions when you open a new account. Just be aware that they often tie back to an email address, so it’s difficult to stack promotions on the same app.

Are you looking for a new way to save money on meal delivery? Below are the seven best food delivery apps to get meals at your door.

1. Postmates

Postmates is one of the best on-demand food delivery apps for a few reasons. They don’t just deliver meals either; they can bring you groceries and alcohol as well.

So, if you want to have a nice night in and cook, you can order groceries and make the meals yourself.

Or, if you prefer to get takeout, you can order from one of the hundreds of places that they have listed, as long as it’s in your area. Some of the popular restaurants Postmates works with include the following:

  • Applebee’s
  • Checkers
  • Chevys Fresh Mex
  • Chipotle
  • Five Guys
  • McDonald’s
  • Subway

If you’ve ever asked yourself, “How can I get fast food delivery near me?” Postmates is an excellent choice. Not only that, you can have local cuisine and healthier meals delivered to you.

You can see the restaurants Postmates partners with on their website. Postmates operates in over 400 cities, so there’s a good chance the service is available in your area.

To get your food delivered from Postmates, you’ll pay either $.99 to $3.99 for Partner Merchants, or $5.99 to $9.99 for any other merchant. You’ll see the costs reflected as you’re ordering your food.

There is also a variable percentage-based fee, based on when you order and your city. For example, if you’re ordering during peak times, you’ll most likely pay an extra fee.

If you become a Postmates Unlimited member for $9.99 a month, you won’t have to pay a delivery fee on any order over $15 any added fees during peak times. You can start this membership with a free seven-day trial.

2. Grubhub

Searching for “best food delivery service near me” will produce another top contender: Grubhub. I’ve personally used Grubhub a few times, and my food has always been hot, fresh, and quick.

Just like with Postmates, you can order from everyday favorites or small and local places nearby. Grubhub even works with some restaurants exclusively, like Denny’s, Taco Bell, and Shake Shack.

Ordering food can get expensive when you add up all the fees, but one of the coolest perks to ordering on Grubhub is that you can filter your order based on savings.

It highlights restaurants with sales, those offering free delivery, and more. The Grubhub app also offers catering for large events.

So, if you want to order out on a budget, GrubHub is a great place to start. They also offer student deals, and you can save as much as 50 percent off your food and delivery just by showing your college ID.

Grubhub doesn’t have a set pricing on delivery fees; they allow the restaurants they partner with to set them. However, most restaurants are typically in the $3 to $8 range, plus tips if you decide to tip your driver.

Of course, taxes and Grubhub fees (a few dollars each order) also apply.

3. DoorDash

DoorDash is one of the fastest-growing cheap food delivery apps as they operate in over 600 cities and 50+ markets. The DoorDash service sets itself apart with its in-app notifications.

You can track your order’s progress, pickup time, and even watch a map of where your driver is going.

While some delivery apps can take up to 45 minutes to receive your food, DoorDash’s delivery times are typically far lower.

For example, I entered my location and learned that it could take less than 20 minutes for me to order McDonald’s and have the food at my door.

Saving Money is Easy With Trim
Do you feel like you pay too much for your cable bill or gym membership? Let Trim save you money on the memberships and subscriptions you don’t use.

The average Trim user saves $30 per bill with this handy little app!

Trim can negotiate lower prices for you with Comcast, Time Warner and more. Try Trim today!

The average delivery fee for DoorDash is $5 to $8 per order. Plus, DoorDash also charges their fees, which vary based on the size and cost of your order.

However, you can sign up for their $10 a month membership and not pay any delivery fees on orders $15 or more. You’ll also be able to order pickup for free as a member, just in case you want to swing by the restaurant on your way home.

DoorDash regularly sends emails with different offers, so there are many opportunities to save money on meal delivery.

4. Uber Eats

Uber Eats is one of the first and most popular food delivery apps, and they’re also one of the biggest. Unlike some apps that only cover specific areas, Uber Eats is available in almost every area that Uber is.

So, if you know you can order an Uber in your town or city, you can likely order Uber Eats as well.

Uber Eats works with numerous restaurants, including:

  • Applebee’s
  • McDonald’s
  • Sonic
  • Subway
  • Wawa

Of course, they work with local eateries and sit down restaurants. And, they even partner with quite a few vegan restaurants if that’s your jam.

Uber Eats is actually on the lower side when it comes to delivery fees. They range from $.99 to $4.99, with many in the $.99 to $2.99 range.

Just like with the other apps, Uber Eats also has a membership program. For $9.99 a month, users can get free delivery and five percent off on orders $15 or more.

They are in testing mode with the membership program, so it may be awhile before you see it rolled out in your area.

5. Delivery.com

Delivery.com is a little different than the other best food delivery apps on this list. What makes it so unique is that it offers more than just food delivery, and it’s completely free to use.

If you’re lucky enough to have Delivery.com in your area (I’m not), not only can you get your groceries and meals covered, but your laundry, gifts, and catering too should you need them.

Delivery.com is available in over 100 major cities. You can see where they operate on their website; you may have to wait a little while if they aren’t available in your area yet, but they’re expanding fast.

The best thing about Delivery.com is that they only charge a delivery free from the company you order from, plus taxes. Delivery.com doesn’t charge you anything to use their service.

Delivery fees range based on the merchant. They can also vary from city to city, but the average fees are under $8 an order. You can also earn delivery points whenever you order online.

You’ll earn 20 delivery points per $1 spent, which are redeemable for credits on future purchases.

6. Seamless

Seamless is one of the only apps I’ve found that accept PayPal and cash as options when you order your food online. The Seamless app operates in over 500 cities, and work with dozens of restaurants.

Like other cheap food delivery services, Seamless allows you to narrow options by category. For example, you can search for the following types of meals:

  • Breakfast food
  • Chinese food delivery
  • Fast food
  • Mexican food
  • Pizza
  • Thai food

Seamless also doesn’t charge a fee to use their website. Another cool perk with Seamless is that they work with restaurants to be more eco-friendly as well.

Their Seamless bags are biodegradable, and they’ll mark the restaurants you order from with an “I’m trying to save the earth” checkbox. That means the restaurant won’t provide you any extra napkins, silverware, or plastic.

As with the rest of the apps, delivery fees do vary from restaurant to restaurant. However, average delivery fees are less than $7.99.

Since Seamless doesn’t charge you to use their website, your only other costs would be the taxes on your food and the tip for your driver if you choose to do that.

7. GoPuff

If you don’t want a full meal, only feel like snacking, or if you’re hosting a movie night and need snacks quick, GoPuff is the service for you. It’s such a neat little app, and I can’t believe it took me so long to discover it.

Here’s how it works. You log in, order from the over 3,000 products that GoPuff stocks, pay the delivery fee, and get snacks, cleaning supplies, and more right to your door.

Just like with Delivery.com, they aren’t available in many areas yet. But you can request coverage in your area by typing your address in their search bar.

The difference between GoPuff and other food delivery apps is that there is no middleman involved. GoPuff works with retailers and merchants directly to stock their warehouses.

So, when you order, a GoPuff employee is going to deliver your items right to your door. They’re also open almost 24/7 in most cities, so you can order whenever that snack craving hits.

GoPuff also has just one flat delivery fee of $1.95. That’s it. No matter how small, large, cheap, or expensive your order is, you’ll only spend $1.95 to get it delivered. How cool is that?

What to Know About Food Delivery Services

You must keep several things in mind when using on-demand food delivery apps. Those include:

You may pay surge pricing. These fees vary with each app, but some services charge more during peak times like the dinner hour. Unless you live in a large downtown area, this likely won’t impact you much, but it’s important to keep in mind.

Don’t forget the tip. Even if you pay a delivery fee, the driver likely sees little to none of it. Some food delivery apps let you include a tip in the app, but not all. Make sure to tip the driver and include it in your cost.

You may pay more through an app. Some restaurants charge more when you order through an app. It may not amount to much, and it also may require you to pick up the meal. Verify pricing before placing your order.

Don’t use these apps if you’re picking up the meal. Some meal delivery apps let you select to pick up the order. Unless it’s free of charge, you should deal directly with the restaurant.

There are other ways to save money on meals. Food delivery apps aren’t the only way to save money on meals.

You can use free food apps, or visit restaurants where kids eat free tonight to increase savings opportunities.
