There is so much emphasis on being fit and healthy these days that it is hard not to give in to the pressure and get moving. This is a great idea and can make you feel much better both physically and mentally. However, the harsh reality is that the majority of us just do not have the money to pay $100 per month for a gym membership that we’ll likely only use twice a week or join diet groups and pay for the apparently ‘miracle’ weight loss milkshakes. But there are a variety of ways in which you can get fit without having to spend a fortune.
Running is Free
One of the best ways to lose weight is to run, and luckily this way of exercising is easy to do without a gym or a personal trainer. Running outside on the roads and along pathways requires far more endurance than inside on a treadmill. The key is to start small and try not to push yourself too much. However, do not try to get away with slacking for weeks on end because this won’t help you at all. Set yourself a target that is reasonable and you know you will be able to achieve. Then set sub-targets to reach a certain time or length by a point. Sticking to these will mean that you become fitter and thinner as time goes on.
Cut Down and Eat Up
Many people will hide behind the excuse that junk food is far cheaper than healthy food but this simply is not the case. Fruits and vegetables are a cheap snack that will fill you up for longer than a chocolate bar or a bag of chips.
One of the main reasons that people put on weight is not necessarily through what they eat, but the portion size of what they are eating. Cutting down on the amount of food you are eating, especially junk food and replacing it with healthier options could not only help you to become fitter but you may save money too. Increase your intake of fruit, vegetables and water, and reduce the amount of fat, sugar and carbohydrates that you are consuming. Be careful not to get carried away and cut these out completely though as you need them as part of a balanced diet.
Embrace Free Travel
A great way to start exercising is to simply avoid as many forms of motorized transportation as possible. Walk to the shop instead of taking the car or bike if you can. It may seem like a lot of effort at first but you will save money on gas or bus fares, help the environment and also help you get fit at the same time. Everyone’s a winner!
Grow Your Own
Growing your own fruit and vegetables can be extremely rewarding and can also cost next to nothing. Fresh produce, especially when done through your own garden, is great for your diet and is an essential aspect of a healthy lifestyle. Many diets and fitness plans allow you to eat as much fruit and vegetables as you want. Being packed with water also helps to keep you hydrated which is essential when you are taking part in a fitness regime.
