Frugal Friday: Posts That Ruled This Week

Carla

Who’s looking forward to the weekend being around the corner? I know that I am. We have a fun one in store as our oldest is turning five on Saturday. This year’s birthday theme is princesses. She is all about Disney princesses lately and isn’t particular in which princesses she likes. As long as it’s Disney and a princess then it’s high up there in our daughter’s mind. I guess there are worse things to like, and I can at least say that they’re not as annoying as some of the things she’s liked in the past.

Anyway, there’s been a lot of great posts in the blogosphere this week. Here’s a sampling of some of my favorites…

Life and Financial Lessons from a Five Year Old  on Eyes On the Dollar

The Best Investment EVER! On SavvyScot

Why Saving Money Feels as Good as Spending Does On Club Thrifty

Greg talks about why saving can feel good. Sure, you’ll get a high off something you just bought, but stuff will not bring you happiness.

Legal Battle Over a Sagging Balcony   On Blue Collar Workman

Part 3: How To Rebalance Your Retirement Accounts On Your Personal Finance Pro

Harry talks about the importance of rebalancing your retirement accounts. In this part of his series he talks about how the actual rebalancing of your funds is actually fairly easy once you have your allocations in mind.

I almost forgot, Fall officially starts this weekend. Fall is my favorite time of the year. I love watching the leaves change color and the lower temperatures. But most of all, I am glad Fall is here because it means college football is upon us! What are some of your favorite things to do in the Fall?

  1. No link love for me? *tear* haha

I’m not looking forward to the weekend or fall in general. For the past 3 years I’ve had TERRIBLE allergies. They get so bad that I can’t really function. Well, needless to say, I mowed the lawn on Tuesday and the allergies flared up. I’ve been worthless since. I’m FINALLY seeing an allergist on Tuesday so I’m hoping they’ll figure out some medicine to give me. My wife and I originally planned a trip to a winery tomorrow and a small town up north, but staying inside is the only thing I can really do. Lame!

    • Sorry Jason, next week…I promise. It’s been a crazy week and was not able to get to that as much as I wanted.

I hear you on the allergies. I don’t have any that I know of, but you sound very similar to my wife. There’s just something outside that makes her go into sneezing fits and makes her eyes fire engine red. She’s got drops for her eyes, but does not help with the sneezing.

    • Not a problem Jeremy, thanks for the invaluable help! They’re a blast, especially at this age. I think the site of me dressed as a princess would cause hysterical blindness for all involved. :) I am scary looking enough on my own, so I think I’ll pass on the princess dress up.

  2. My favorite things to do in Fall is look forward to Winter :) It’s still pretty hot here in the Fall and doesn’t really get cool until December-ish. Hey, I read 3 of those roundup posts, we must think alike.

    Have a nice weekend John!

    • Yea, it has been so hot here this Summer that I am sure it’ll be a warmer Fall. I am just hoping we don’t get a ton of snow dumped on us this Winter because we had such a miserable summer.

You have a great weekend as well.

  3. What is it about that age that they just gravitate to the princesses? We never really encouraged it, but it just really took off around age 4. I’m liking the newer one’s like Rapunzel, but I’m waiting for the princess who puts herself through school, gets a great job, and runs the company, LOL. No, it’s really fun, enjoy, and thanks for the mention.
